LIBRARY/MEDIA DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

As a result of education in the library media program, students in grades K-5th grade will:
  • Develop a love of reading and literature.
  • Be independent, competent and confident users of technology.
  • Locate, use, synthesize and evaluate information effectively, efficiently and economically.
  • Communicate information and ideas.
  • Practice ethical behavior with regard to information and information technology.
  • Become lifelong learners !

What do we do in the Library/Media Center?
Students in all grades come to the library according to a weekly schedule, with a 45-minute class dedicated to both our library and technology curriculums.  We normally reserve the final ten minutes of class to circulate library books and materials. Children are encouraged to return all materials on their assigned library day, therefore keeping books checked out for 1 week.

Library lessons evolve out of an effort to answer “essential questions” and are based on the content standards of the North Haven Public Schools along with a crosswalk of standards from The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE.)

All about me!
The 2024-2025 school year is my 10th year at Ridge Road, but the school and this community has been a part of family for way longer than that.  My wife Holley grew up in North Haven and attended Ridge Road as one of the first Integrated Day classrooms.  I grew up in Chicago and teaching is a third career for me.  Following my graduation from Illinois State University, I embarked on a 15-year career as a television sportscaster at CBS-TV affiliates in Champaign, Illinois and Hartford (Channel 3.)  When my daughter Alex was born, I began life as a stay-at-home Dad.   Alex is a Colby College graduate and my son Sam attends the University of Richmond.

In addition to my undergraduate degree, I have a Master of Library Science from Southern CT State University and a 6th year certificate degree in Integrated Technology from Dominican University in California.
